Supportive Parenting for
Anxious Childhood Emotions
SPACE is an evidence-based program developed at Yale University that helps parents support children with anxiety, OCD, and related challenges.
Unlike traditional therapy models that focus directly on the child, SPACE works through the parent. Parents learn practical strategies that help their child feel safe, confident, and capable of managing anxiety independently.
When children struggle with anxiety, parents often step in to reduce distress through reassurance or accommodation. While well-intentioned, these patterns can unintentionally maintain anxiety.
SPACE helps parents recognize and gradually shift these patterns. Through consistent, supportive changes, children learn to tolerate discomfort, face fears, and build resilience.
